What it means to me.......

The URANTIA Book is an actual World Book.  In the book we discover that the name of our world is URANTIA.

(In Greek Urana means=The Heavenly one.  Urano means=Heavens)

The URANTIA BOOK is an epochal revelation to the people of this earth.  The purpose of the book is not to start a new church, but rather it is an endowment of revelation to all people on earth.  The purpose is to bring about the Brotherhood of man and to testify of the Fatherhood of God.  The URANTIA BOOK came, outside of any church organization, because it is meant for all the people of this earth, all churches, all religions.

The URANTIA revelation is divided into four parts:

The first part tells about our Heavenly Father and his plan for our perfection and Eternal life.  The first part also tells about the Eternal Son and the Holy Ghost and about the great plan of the Master Universe, and the administration of descending sons who were created and prepared to come to teach and uplift mortal man.  We learn about God's dwelling place and learn that he is indeed our Father and that he has a form and can be seen and known.  His great Eternal plan is restated many times and in many places throughout the revelation.

The second part tells us that Jesus is the Lord of the Universe, The Creator Son, The beloved Sovereign of our Universe.  It is through Jesus Christ that we receive our Salvation, it is through Jesus Christ that we can return to God our Father.  We learn about the Universe and how it is administered.  This part of the revelation tells about what happens after we leave this earth, about the Melchizedek schools, and the plan for our education and growth.  we are told about the seven dispensations that occur on earth.

The third part is the history of our planet!  We learn that there is an evolutionary plan for our planet under God's creative guidance.  We learn about the problems that have occurred on our planet because of the Lucifer rebellion and the Lucifer manifesto is given.  The tender and heartbreaking account of the experience of Adam and Eve is recorded. We read of the importance of marriage and family.  Next we read about Melchizedek coming to the earth and how he selected Abraham and prepared him for leadership.  The Urantia papers tells about the thousands of Melchizedek missionaries that went forth to teach the Gospel on the earth!  We read of the results of the Melchizedek teachings in the Orient, Levant, with the Hebrews, and in the Occident.  There follows beautiful sections on religion in human experience and the foundations of religious faith.  Following are five papers about our Divine Spirits and their origins in the pre-existence, their mission and ministry and relation to mortals.  These papers are beautiful beyond words.

The fourth part of the book is the magnificent account of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ!  We learn some of his significant experiences prior to his mortal life and then about his birth, infancy, early and later childhood, his adolescent years and early manhood and his adult life.  It tells about John the Baptist and his special place in being a forerunner for Christ. (We also learn in book three that John the Baptist is the chairman of the 24 counselors who Jesus commissioned for special assignments on this earth)  The Book tells of Jesus' baptism and the ordination of the twelve apostles and how they began the public work.  We learn the details of training the apostles and the evangelists-the School of the Prophets- and mission training they received.  Jesus' sermons are recorded and even some personal visits with the apostles are given!  Each recording is precious and thrilling to read!  The last week in Jesus' earth experience is given day by day: the last supper, the farewell discourse, the final admonitions and warnings, Gethsemane,  the betrayal and arrest of Jesus, the crucifixion and finally the marvelous resurrection, and the many appearances after the resurrection.  Finally it closes with the account of the bestowal of the Spirit of Truth-The Spirit of Christ, and after Pentecost tells of the changes that took place in the message of the Gospel and in the Church organization.  It ends with a magnificent paper on the Faith of Jesus, which we are told we may 'appropriate' to strengthen our own if we will but ask!  "Ask and it shall be given, Seek and you shall find.”

A Urantian Artist

Students of The Urantia Book, already are aware of the following description but I want to include it for those just learning about the Revelation.  This beautiful description of The Urantia Book is beyond my simple words and fittingly introduces the magnificent Epochal Revelation:

“Part I: The Central and Superuniverse.

These thirty one papers depict the nature of Deity, the reality of Paradise, the organization and working of the central and superuniverses, the personalities of the grand universe, and the high destiny of evolutionary mortals. They were sponsored, formulated, and put into English by a commission of twenty four spiritual administrators acting in accordance with a mandate issued by high deity authorities (the Ancients of Days) directing that they do this on Urantia in the year A.D. 1934.

Part II: The Local Universe

A local universe is the handiwork of a Creator Son of the Paradise order of Michael. It comprises one hundred constellations, each embracing one hundred systems of inhabited worlds. Each system will eventually contain approximately one thousand inhabited spheres. Our world, Urantia, belongs to a local universe whose sovereign is Michael, the Son of God and the Son of Man, known on this world as Jesus of Nazareth. In the central universe the Universal Father (God) is personally present; in the universes and planets of space our Father is being represented by his Sovereign Sons, while he is intimately present in the minds of his mortal children through his indwelling spirit, The Thought Adjusters. The twenty five papers comprising Part II tell the story of man's ascension career following his initial life on the evolutionary planet.

Part III:  The History of Urantia

Around 1,000,000,000 years ago Urantia had attained approximately its present size. At this time it was placed upon the physical registries of our local universe, Nebadon, and given its name, Urantia. [Page 660:3] The sixty three papers comprising this section relate the history of our planet, the geologic development, the establishment of life, and the evolution and history of man, evolving civilizations, human institutions and governments. Here also are discussed the Trinity concept, the evolution of religion, the indwelling spirit of God (the Thought Adjuster), personality survival, the bestowals of Christ Michael. "Urantia is the sentimental shrine of all Nebadon, the chief of ten million inhabited worlds, the mortal home of Christ Michael...And your record tells the truth when it says that this same Jesus has promised some time to return to the world of his terminal bestowal, the World of the Cross." [Page 1319:1]

Part IV:  The Life and Teachings of Jesus

These seventy seven papers give a year by year account of the life and teachings of the Son of Man, his childhood, youth, and early travels, his personal and public ministry, the choosing and training of the twelve apostles, his trial, death, and resurrection. This biography of Jesus occupies the last third of The Urantia Book. The first three sections of the Book constitute an informing introduction, a universe backdrop, for the enthralling drama of this human divine life of Jesus on our planet. The presentation, therefore, of the picture of this matchless life in its cosmic frame is rightly the climax, the fitting conclusion of the Urantia revelation. Jesus' life and precepts, in their original form, unencumbered by tradition and dogma, are by far the greatest possible help that moral man can have in his age long climb to Paradise. "The great hope of Urantia lies in the possibility of a new revelation of Jesus with a new and enlarged presentation of his saving message which would spiritually unite in loving service the numerous families of his present day professed followers." [Page 2086:2] "The time is ripe to witness the figurative resurrection of the human Jesus from his burial tomb amidst the theological traditions and the religious dogmas of nineteen centuries....What a transcendent service if, through this revelation, the Son of Man should be recovered from the tomb of traditional theology and be presented as the living Jesus to the church that bears his name, and to all other religions!"
